Spicy and Dicey: Tempeh Cubed Madras

How do you like your Tempeh? We like ours with the ZING of South Indian Madras and we know you will too. Now you may think tempeh is only for the hardcore but, as the kids would say, we are absolutely smashing these new flavours, so tempeh can be for everyone. Even the more apprehensive. It is no exaggeration when we say these are the yummiest things in the whole world (and maybe even the stratosphere).

We’re pretty sure it was the famous Indian mathematician Aryabhata who discovered the universal flavour equation: Tempeh x Taste x Spicy Marinade = Yummy Madras Cubed. Try yours in a curry, wrapped in a flatbread with mango chutney or tossed in a Bombay potato salad. Now I don’t like maths but that is one equation I can get on board with.

Get frying, sizzling, baking, tossing, turning and finally eating these tasty bites of spicey curry gloriousness. You will be doing the stratosphere a disservice if you don’t!

Diced and extra nice: Teriyaki Cubed!

Some might say laziness, we say efficiency. Not only have we marinated this flipping tasty Tofoo in tempting Teriyaki for a quick and hassle-free burst of flavour, it is also already cubed so there’s no need to chop, just chuck them in any dish and get chowing down. So, for the lazy *cough cough* efficient people out there- this is what we call perfection.

The literal translation of Teriyaki comes from two ancient Japanese words – Teri meaning ‘get this stuff in your mouth pronto’, and Yaki meaning ‘gosh, this is flipping gorgeous’. Try Teriyaki Tofoo in your stir fries, on skewers, in wraps, or simply served with rice. Tempeh Cubed Sweet Soy!

What’s that you say… another new product?! This time we have taken Tofu’s buff brother Tempeh and made it even tastier (and chopped it into little pieces…) in our new TEMPEH CUBED SWEET SOY.

Yes, we know these aren’t technically cubes. They’re rectangular prisms, cuboids or parallelepipeds. Or even 3D orthotopes. Did YOU know the real name for sweet soy is Ketjap Manis, ‘ketjap’ means soy sauce and ‘manis’ means sweet.

These perfectly imperfect little cubes go amazing in a stir fry, nasi goreng or just baked and thrown into a salad. But really, they are as versatile as all of our Tofoo products, be imaginative, spread your Tofoo wings and get creating!

Never tried Tempeh? Time to get your skates on! It’s like tofu that’s been hitting the gym, packed with whole pieces of soya beans to make it firmer and a wee bit chewier. Also, it is pretty high in protein at over 8g a serving, 25.2g if you eat the whole tray (which you might do since it’s so yummy).

Hello Teriyaki Tofoo!

Exciting news, we’ve just launched a yummy new flavour: Teriyaki Tofoo!

Our organic, handmade tofoo has had a little bath in a delicious Teriyaki marinade so it’s chock full of flavour. Just chop, cube, slice or dice and chuck it in the frying pan for a quick and easy meal. Your tastebuds will thank you!

Storage Instructions

We have had some queries from Tofoo lovers asking how to store their tofu products. So we thought we would share these Q&As with you:

How long does Tofoo Naked and Smoked tofu keep for unopened?

Tofoo should be kept refrigerated below 5°C, and you should check the use by on the side of pack of the tofu to see when it needs to be used by.

How long does Tofoo Naked and Smoked tofu keep for once opened?

Once opened place any remaining Tofoo in water in an airtight container and use within 48hrs.

Can I freeze Tofoo?

We advise that Tofoo is not suitable for freezing. That’s because freezing can change the taste and texture of our tofu.

Start the New Year right!

Yes, you read that right. We’ve got a new product launching this January and it’s too good to miss. Drum roll please… for our Smoked and Spicy Tomato Sizzlers. All sizzle and no shizzle, these beauties are perfect in casseroles, butties, tagines, the list goes on. Smoked Sizzlers are available in Co-op and the Spicy Tomato you can pick up in Waitrose. Not to be missed!

The tofu joy does not stop there, we are spoiling you for Veganuary. We are also launching a new flavour of the Crispy Tofoo Bites – Sea Salt and Black Pepper. Satisfyingly seasoned with a pinch and a twist, these flavours taste great in a wrap, snazzy salad or just with good old chips and peas. Waitrose are stocking these!

Teaming up time

November brings two new brand collaborations to shout about! Friends both new and old.

Firstly – welcome back MOB! They have created two amazing tofu recipes, one is on our website already for you to cook up the best side dish around – Salt and Pepper Smoked Tofoo crispy cubes. Beware of the spicy kick!

The second recipe is launching on our site Fri 29th Nov and is the perfect Friday fakeaway– so keep those eyes peeled, it’s not to be missed!

Time to say hello to School of Wok. Jeremy Pang and his amazing team have a flagship cookery school in London. School of Wok has three main goals: to eat great Asian food, to teach great Asian food and to laugh while doing so! Now there’s a mantra we can all get behind! Their fantastic bao bun kits are available to buy now, and you’ll find some Bao recipes on our tip cards in pack at the moment.

They are also running a Saturday Kitchen series – which combines Tofoo in unreal Asian dishes. Again – keep those peepers peeled as we will be sharing updates on our social media.

Spicy Sweet Chilli Tofoo

Wednesday marked the launch of a new crispy flavour product – Spicy Sweet Chilli flavour to be exact! It’s the same Tofoo you know and love, covered in a spicy sweet chilli crumb. Come on now, don’t be scared off by the chilli thing. These bites definitely won’t give you a super spicy kick right in the taste buds. Honest* Try them in a stir-fry, wrap or simply with good old chips and peas.

*Don’t believe a word of it!

And if you want our advice, get cooking up the Louisiana Po’ boy to taste these bites at their best!
